Why choose Press Alert?
Because of the quality of our services and the company we keep.
Press Alert’s advice and training are at the heart of Government Crisis Communications strategy. As part of the UK Civil Contingencies Secretariat, training for the Cabinet Office at its Emergency Planning College for nine years to 2008, we were architects of advice in the release of public information, through the media, in an emergency. This advice is now replicated in the HM Government national emergency plan – Emergency Response and Recovery – launched in August 2009. Our public sector clients include the Department of Business Innovation and Skills for whom we provided media input into its COBR-based national exercise in 2009, the UK’s Counter-Terror Command – delivering media training and input on behalf of City of London Police’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear incident command – and the British Army, in Brigade-level exercises in advance of vulnerable events such as the G8 Summit.
Press Alert has trained the Business Continuity Heads of the world’s Central Banks on behalf of the Bank of England and across Government Departments including the senior civilian staff of the MoD, Whitehall. In local government we prepare the Gold Commanders of the emergency services, emergency planners, executive members, lead officers, head teachers and communications staff for media involvement.
In the private sector our clients include leading banking, professional support service, retail and aviation companies, typically to board level, including KPMG, Allen and Overy, Clifford Chance, AXA Investment Managers, BNP Paribas, Jones Lang LaSalle, Lloyds of London and the London Metal Exchange.
We provide the media element to Business Continuity Plan testing exercises for leading specialists, such as Visor Consultants, for clients including the Olympic Delivery Authority, Grosvenor Group and Health Protection Agency.
Kathryn Holloway lectures worldwide as a specialist in Crisis Communications and Media Practise for audiences including the World Conference on Disaster Management, Toronto, National Risk at London’s Barbican and BC Expo, Excel, London.
Clients invariably congratulate Kathryn Holloway and the Press Alert team on the effectiveness of their support in a breaking story, on the impact of lectures and media training and the added value we bring to Business Continuity, Emergency and Warning and Informing exercises.
In providing all of our services we are happy to work with your in-house evaluation procedures or provide our own quality-control assessment, as requested.
This is a wholly representative selection of comments from clients:-
David Morley, Senior Partner, global law firm Allen and Overy.
“Kathryn initially worked on crisis media communications training. That developed into a wider role advising myself, as managing partner, and our senior management team on specific media issues and generally on engaging with the media. She is an experienced and versatile media professional who commands immediate credibility with a senior audience. She is able to work well with a wide range of people in the organisation. Kathryn can make rapid and accurate assessments of complex communication issues. She delivers hands-on practical advice and, if required, suggests messages at great speed. I particularly value her objective and clear opinions. I also value her ability to immediately see the key issues and how best to present our perspective in a compelling manner. She has been incredibly responsive to our needs against some pressurised deadlines. We commissioned Kathryn to do a complete review of our media policy which led to a comprehensive report accepted in full by our board and management team. This has led to us adopting a completely fresh approach to engaging with the media. I cannot recommend Kathryn highly enough.”
Joanna Kolatsis, Head of Legal Services, Libra Holidays Group.
“Following a very difficult year, two subsidiaries of the Libra Holidays Group engaged the services of Kathryn Holloway for the purposes of crisis communications and media training. Kathryn’s support and expertise during this time have been invaluable. Her ability to produce written communications speedily and at the appropriate level of sympathy and understanding has made some extremely difficult tasks much easier. Kathryn and her colleagues have also provided media training to selected groups of employees in order to assist them when dealing with the media. Everyone who attended these sessions has confirmed that they were a resounding success with some much-needed feedback. More importantly, the sessions also highlighted the need for further training as the ability to respond to media requests is such a specialised area. Kathryn’s experience speaks for itself and is evident when she is providing communications advice and training. She engages particularly well with individuals and displays an uncanny ability to produce training that is tailor-made to suit a variety of personality types. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kathryn and her team to any organisation and believe her services are an asset to any business.”
Peter Power, MD Visor Consultants, Business Continuity advisor and exercise specialist, former Scotland Yard anti-terrorism officer, international media commentator on Business Continuity and UK Resilience issues.
“Kathryn has worked with Visor Consultants on a wide variety of senior management and NGO business continuity exercises. She has provided clients with invaluable input and guidance concerning potential media coverage and analysis of their response. In advance of exercises, Kathryn and her team have helped to produce news bulletins and interviews with actors which have added genuine value in terms of the realism of scenarios and demands on BC teams – recreating the considerable pressure of the media for participants. She is undoubtedly the best media specialist I have ever worked with. I am delighted that Kathryn is also an associate consultant with Visor Consultants where she has become one of our most valued team members and is an absolute pleasure to work with. She sets an example that many aspire to, but none have matched.”
Rachel Moss, Head of Communications, Wales Audit Office
“I have never received or heard such glowing feedback from colleagues about a training course, including the following comments:
‘This was an absolutely superb training session which will influence my behaviour for years rather than days or months.’ ‘This was the best training course I’ve ever been on, although I was dreading it beforehand. Well delivered, professional, with the right level of support and challenge.’ ‘This was time really well spent with genuine experts and a customised approach. I also really appreciated the obvious depth and quality of preparation and homework that Kathryn and Glen had done.’ ‘It was excellent training. Very well presented and easy to understand at a good pace and with the right balance of practical work and ‘talk’.”
Katie Abrahams, Communications Officer, Chelmsford Borough Council: Warning and Informing Group Seminar, media training of members and lead officers.
“Kathryn’s media training for our senior officers and Members was very well received by all those who attended. She worked closely with the Corporate Communications team in advance of the training to ensure that the case studies used were tailored and relevant to our audience. Several of the attendees approached me after the sessions and expressed their appreciation at being provided with the training. From the perspective of Corporate Communications, we also now have greater confidence in putting our spokespeople out in front of the media.”
